Funeral Services for Rev. William C. Chappell will be held today, Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 1:00 P. M.
in the Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Milton Hughes will officiate and burial will follow in the
Greater New Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
Reverend William Clarence Chappell was born February 04, 1952 to the late Arthur and Mrs. Mona Bell Chappell. He was a life long resident of Dublin, Georgia where he graduated from Oconee High School in 1970. Rev. Chappell went on to attend Fort Valley State University where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting. He was a dutiful servant of the U. S. Army during the Vietnam Era.
He worked several jobs in his lifetime to include Lease’s Department Store, Piggly Wiggly Southern, and Allen Bradley Automation. Rev. Chappell established his career within the Department of Veterans Affairs where he served as Assistant Chief and Chief of Medical Administration Service and Staff Assistant to the Director in Dublin, Georgia; he then transferred to Augusta, Georgia continuing his career as Staff Assistant to the Director there. He later retired after 30 years of service. .His community
involvements and honors include membership with the Dublin– Laurens County Black Festival Community Committee, Inc. Distinguished President of the Dublin-Laurens Optimist Club, Lieutenant Governor Of the Georgia District of Optimist International, recognition as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America, Outstanding 100 Black Men of Georgia , EEOC Employee of the Year, Dublin-Laurens County Chamber of Commerce, Outstanding Person with a Disability. Advisor to the Presidents Counsel for the Enhancement of Veterans Health Care, V. A. Liaison to the Augusta Chamber of Commerce and Augusta Mayors Military and Veterans Affairs Committee.
Rev. Chappell confessed Christ at an early age and joined Stewart Chapel Baptist Church where he served as Deacon.. He later united with Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church and faithfully served as Deacon and a member of the male chorus. Rev. Chappell answered his calling into the ministry and preached his initial sermon on March 6, 2011.
Rev. Chappell united in holy matrimony with the former Vivian J. Smith on March 31, 1973. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Jerry Chappell, Lawrence Chappell and Cleveland Davis.
He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memories, a dedicated and loving wife of forty three years (43), Vivian J. (Dublin, GA.), one daughter, Tamaiko Renee (Flowery Branch, GA.), two sons, Enrikey Ramon (Malinda) Graham (Hinesville, GA.) and William Christopher (Ashley) of (Tuscaloosa, AL), four grandchildren, Leon and Antoine Graham (Hinesville, GA ) and Liam and Aston Chappell (Tuscaloosa, AL ) A devoted mother-in-law, Willie Maude James (Dublin, GA. ) six sister-in-laws, Linda Melson ( Atlanta, GA. ) Angel Smith (John) , Charlene James, Carolene Jones, Eliza Davis, Patricia Chappell and Rosa Chappell, all of (Dublin, GA)
Two brother-in-laws, Roosevelt (Lori) Smith of (Onalaska, WI) and Otis (Janifere) James, Jr. .Atlanta, GA.) , one uncle, James Chappell, (Dublin, GA.) and one aunt, Beulah Washington, (Dublin, GA).
Rev. Chappell will be placed in the church one hour prior to the services. Friends are being received at the family residence, 806 Hart Lane, Dublin, GA.
Pallbearers will be Alfred Berry, Emory Bostic Rev. Otha Davis, Thomas Davis, Tom Fair, Michael Fowler, Marvin
Harris and Levogie Kates.
