Thompson Funeral Homes & Cremation Care operates two locations in Highland County. The Hillsboro facility traces its roots to 1959, when Hope Miller opened his funeral home at its current address after serving in World War II. Steven W. Thompson joined the business in 1981, and continues to operate it today after Miller's retirement in 1986.
The Sinking Spring location has deeper historical roots. Charles Willing Byrd built the home at 126 South Main Street in 1822 on land that included the natural spring for which the town was named.
The funeral home staff includes Funeral Director and Embalmer Meghan Wagoner, along with Funeral Assistants Richard Vanzant and Pat Michael. The business offers both burial and cremation services, with gathering spaces available for visitations, traditional funeral services, and memorial services. Evening, weekend, and holiday services can be arranged, and the funeral home provides pre-planning programs for families who wish to make advance arrangements.
