Thompson Funeral Homes & Cremation Care operates two locations in Highland County with deep roots in the community. The original Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home in Sinking Spring traces its history to 1822, when Charles Willing Byrd built the home at 126 South Main Street. The Hillsboro location was established in 1959 by Hope Miller, a World War II veteran who returned to his hometown to open his own funeral business.
Steven W. Thompson joined Hope Miller in partnership in 1981, and took over full operation of the business when Miller retired in 1986. Thompson continues to operate both funeral homes today. The staff includes Funeral Director and Embalmer Meghan Wagoner, along with Funeral Assistants Richard Vanzant and Pat Michael.
The funeral homes offer traditional burial and cremation services, with options for viewings, memorial services, and gatherings held during evenings, weekends, or holidays to accommodate families. Both locations provide gathering spaces for families and friends.
