Woods entered the funeral business in 1905, operating from Seventh Street in downtown Somerville with a small display area, office, and preparation room. After Woods passed away in 1932, the business remained in the family through his wife, son Walter Lee Woods, and daughter Ruth Strickland.
The business was incorporated as Strickland Funeral Home in 1966 when Donald Lee Strickland and Nello Strickland, Jr. acquired Walter Woods' shares. Today, Strickland operates locations in both Caldwell and Somerville, serving families throughout Burleson County. The funeral home offers traditional burial services, cremation with various service options, tribute videos, memorial keepsakes, and live-streaming capabilities for distant family and friends.
