About Renfro Funeral Services
Renfro Funeral Services traces back to 1921, when St. Julian and Inez Renfro opened their first location in Cincinnati's West End with a $600 investment. Inez became a licensed funeral director and embalmer at a time when few women held that credential, handling embalming duties, family arrangements, and even sewing burial garments herself. The Renfros are recognized in "Cincinnati's Colored Citizens," an early historical record of the city's African American community.
In 1957 the family relocated the business to 647 Forest Avenue, where it has operated as Renfro, Patterson & Jordan Funeral Home through Cincinnati's urban redevelopment era and beyond. Now spanning multiple generations of family involvement, the funeral home continues to serve Hamilton County families, including those in Forest Park, Deer Park, and Blue Ash.
