James M. Nelson and Margaret E. Nelson founded Nelson Funeral Home in Vine Grove in 1948, with their first service held on July 7 of that year. C. Alex Edelen became a partner in 1949, and Margaret and Owen Bennett Jr. joined as owners in 1959, giving the funeral home its current name. The Bennett family has maintained ownership across multiple generations, with Beth Calvert (Owen Bennett's daughter) continuing the business alongside her daughter and son-in-law who joined the staff in 2012.
The funeral home operates two locations in Hardin County. The original Vine Grove facility remains at 205 Highland Avenue, while a second location opened in 1971 at 2072 S. Dixie Boulevard in Radcliff. The Radcliff facility is positioned less than five miles from Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central and under two miles from North Hardin Memorial Gardens, providing convenient access for veteran services and cemetery arrangements.
