James M. Nelson and Margaret E. Nelson opened Nelson Funeral Home in Vine Grove in 1948, conducting their first service on July 7 of that year. C. Alex Edelen purchased interest in 1949, and Margaret and Owen Bennett Jr. joined as partners in 1959, eventually becoming sole owners in 1977. The business passed to their daughter and son-in-law Beth and Larry Calvert in 1996, and remains family owned through the third generation.
The funeral home opened its Radcliff location at 2072 S. Dixie Boulevard in 1971. This facility sits less than five miles from Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central and less than two miles from North Hardin Memorial Gardens. The original Vine Grove location at 205 Highland Avenue continues to operate as a fully functional facility.
Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home has served Hardin County families for over seven decades across both locations.
