G.W. Jones founded Jones Funeral Home in 1920 across from the Onslow County Court House. The business is now fourth-generation family owned, with Jerry Jones (third generation) and his sons Bert and Bart continuing the operation. The funeral home moved to its current Jacksonville location at Chaney Avenue and Bordeaux Street under the leadership of G.W.'s sons Timmons, Talbert, and Thompson.
The family expanded to multiple locations, building facilities in Swansboro in 1985, Holly Ridge in 1991, and Richlands in 1994. In 1994, Jones Funeral Home installed the first crematory in Onslow County, which remains the only crematory in the county. A new, larger Jacksonville facility was completed in 1998 to accommodate growth.
