About Hart Funeral Service
Hart Funeral Service has operated in Asheville for over 40 years as the successor to Wilkins-Hart Mortuary. The business traces its lineage through a series of historic Black-owned funeral establishments dating back to 1900, beginning with the Norah Murrough Undertaking Company, followed by Alonzo McCoy Undertaking Company in 1900, McCoy Wilkins Funeral Home in 1920, and Wilkins Mortuary in 1930. Osborne M. Hart purchased Wilkins Mortuary in 1974 and established the current operation.
The funeral home serves Asheville and surrounding Buncombe County communities with both traditional funeral and cremation services. The staff provides service to families throughout the arrangement process and during bereavement.
