Luis Mendoza, owner and funeral director of Dalhart Funeral Home, is a licensed funeral director and embalmer who earned his associate degree in Mortuary Science from Amarillo College in 2009. In November 2025, the funeral home acquired Horizon Funeral Home, returning that business to full local ownership after years of corporate operation based in Houston. Horizon was originally owned by longtime Dalhart resident Phillip Hass, who served the community until his passing in 2020, and the original Hass Funeral Home building now houses Dalhart Funeral Home.
Mendoza has served on the Moore County Crime Stoppers board, the Amarillo College Mortuary Science Advisory Board, and held leadership positions including President of the Dumas Rotary Club and President of the Panhandle Funeral Directors Association. The funeral home features Bear, a certified therapy dog who provides comfort to families during difficult moments. Services now operate from a single location on Rock Island Avenue, consolidating the offerings previously split between two facilities.
