About Cowan & Son Funeral Home
Cowan & Son Funeral Home traces its roots to 1907 when Harry B. Cowan established his undertaking business in Chatanooga, Ohio. After operating in Willshire for several years, Harry moved to Ohio City in 1920 where he purchased the Sherer & Gaunt furniture and undertaking business. In 1934, as funeral practices shifted away from in-home services, the furniture operation was discontinued and dedicated funeral facilities were constructed.
The business has served families in Van Wert and surrounding areas for over 115 years. The funeral home offers both traditional burial and cremation services, with options ranging from full-service funerals to private memorial gatherings. Personalization features include tribute videos, keepsakes, and live streaming for family and friends unable to attend in person.
The staff provides specialized veterans services to honor those who have served in the military. Pre-planning services are available to help families arrange services in advance.
