Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel's history dates back to 1916 when Lon C. and Mamie Bisplinghoff founded the business in Chaffee as Bisplinghoff Funeral Home. Mamie Bisplinghoff became a licensed embalmer in 1927, one of the first women in Missouri to hold such a license. The Bisplinghoffs expanded by purchasing the Russeler Funeral Home in Illmo (now Scott City) in 1928.
After serving in World War II, Mamie's nephew Ollie C. Amick and Jack T. Burnett joined the firm as licensed embalmers and funeral directors in 1946. The two men became sole owners in 1957 and built the Benton chapel in 1960. They purchased the Earl J. Smith Funeral Home in Oran in 1964, expanding the firm's presence across Scott County.
The firm is now operated by third-generation family funeral directors Scott C. Amick, Jack Leslie Burnett, and Mark S. Amick, who purchased the business from their fathers in 1988. The funeral home maintains four locations serving families in Benton, Scott City, Chaffee, and Oran.
