Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel traces its history to 1916 when Lon C. and Mamie Bisplinghoff founded the business in Chaffee as Bisplinghoff Funeral Home. Mamie Bisplinghoff became a licensed embalmer in 1927, one of the first women in Missouri to hold such a license. The Bisplinghoffs expanded to Scott City in 1928 with the purchase of Russeler Funeral Home.
After World War II, Ollie C. Amick and Jack T. Burnett joined as licensed embalmers and funeral directors in 1946, eventually becoming sole owners in 1957. The firm expanded to Benton in 1960 and Oran in 1964, constructing a new Oran facility in 2000. The name changed to Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapels in 1975.
In 1988, the sons of the original partners — Scott C. Amick, Jack Leslie Burnett, and Mark S. Amick — purchased the firm, marking three generations of family ownership. The funeral home operates four chapels serving Scott County and surrounding areas including Chaffee, Benton, and Oran.
