Moody Funeral Service & Crematory traces its origins to 1902, when E. A. Hannah opened a harness and coffin business in Mount Airy. In 1915, Wade C. Moody was hired to handle the horses that pulled the funeral coach, and by 1927-28 he had become sole owner of the renamed Moody Funeral Home. His son Dennis W. Moody joined the business in 1935 and later expanded operations to include facilities in Dobson, North Carolina and Stuart, Virginia.
Dennis W. Moody, Jr. worked with the firm from 1969-70 until his death in 1983. Robert H. Moody, the current President, joined in 1978 and represents the fourth generation of family ownership. The firm operates three locations across Surry County and nearby areas in North Carolina and Virginia.
