About Moody Funeral Service & Crematory
Moody Funeral Service & Crematory traces its history to 1902 when E. A. Hannah arrived in Mount Airy to operate a harness and coffin business. Wade C. Moody was hired by Hannah in 1915 to manage the horses that pulled the funeral coach, and after serving in World War I, he purchased the business in stages between 1920 and 1928, establishing it as Moody Funeral Home. The business has remained in the Moody family through four generations, with Dennis W. Moody joining in 1935, his son Dennis W. Moody Jr. in 1969, and current President Robert H. Moody joining the firm in 1978.
The funeral home operates three locations serving families in North Carolina and Virginia, with facilities in Mount Airy, Dobson, and Stuart. Services include traditional burial, cremation with multiple service options ranging from full funeral services to private arrangements, and tribute videos with live-streaming capabilities for families unable to attend in person.
