Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory was founded in 1894 by German immigrant Adolph Brugger at 449 East 9th Street in Erie. Five generations of the Brugger family have operated the business, with over 20 family members dedicating their careers to funeral service over the past 130 years.
The West 38th Street location at the corner of Greengarden Boulevard was built in 1961 as the first funeral home in Pennsylvania designed specifically for funeral needs. The facility has been completely remodeled twice, in 1980 and 2014, and features flexible visitation rooms designed to accommodate families of varying sizes. The funeral home operates an on-site crematory and serves Erie as well as Millcreek, Fairview, McKean, and Summit Township.
The original Ninth Street location served Erie's lower east side as a neighborhood funeral home until closing in 2006.
