William McCaslin Brice, Jr. YORK – William “Bill” McCaslin Brice, Jr., 84, of York passed away on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 4:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in York. Following the service, the family invites all who would like to come by and share memories to do so at the home of Mac Brice, 206 Bratton Avenue, York, SC. Born June 1, 1928, Bill was the son of the late William McCaslin Brice and Julia Lee Brice. He was a lifelong member, deacon, elder and trustee of First Presbyterian Church of York, and was very active in the mission and service of his church. He was an organizing member of the York Chapter of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Charter President of that organization. He was the youngest elected Mayor of the City of York and also the longest serving Mayor. After serving as Mayor, Bill held the position of City Attorney for almost forty years, and had been in continuous private practice as an attorney for sixty years. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army of Occupation in the Japanese Islands. Mr. Brice was a member of the board of directors at the Bank of York, served with the Foundation of the Carolinas, and was a past president of both the York Chamber of Commerce and the York Rotary Club. He was also a past member of the Crustbreakers Club of York, and an active member of the York Investment Club, as well as having served with countless other boards and organizations. Bill graduated from the University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina School of Law and was an avid Gamecock fan. He held the same seats for football games for over forty years and until recently always attended all home games. He held a strong love for York, lived there his entire life, and always felt that it was an honor to serve his community. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth McCorkle Brice, his son, William M. Brice, III and wife, Katherine Moore Brice, four grandchildren, Olivia Taylor Brice, Gabriella Nicole Brice, Alexander McCaslin Brice, and Julia Helena Brice, two step-grandchildren, Nicolas Riley Robbins and Colby Alexander Robbins, his brother James Taylor Brice and wife Elizabeth Ann Brice and by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express its appreciation for the wonderful care given by both Carolinas Medical Center and by the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House.
