William "Bill" Mcgill

YORK – William R. “Bill” McGill, 87, of York, SC passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, peacefully at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, August 17, 2018, at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church with the Reverend John White and the Reverend Thomas McPhail officiating. The family will receive friends at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall following the service.
Born in Monroe, NC, Bill was the son of the late John Henry McGill and Ella Mae Morton McGill. In the late 1940’s he played in the SC/NC football Shrine Bowl and also in the SC All-Star game and later he was a coach in the SC All-Star game. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and received his Masters Degree at Western Carolina. He was the Athletic Director and Head Coach at Lower Richland High School, Batesburg-Leesville High School, and Rock Hill High School. He was a member, Elder, and Sunday School teacher at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church, a member of the Gamecock Club, and a Batesburg-Leesville High School Athletic Hall of Famer.
Bill is survived by his wife of 68 years, Juanita “Nita” Carroll McGill, sons, Randy McGill (Sally), Stephen McGill (Maggie), three grandchildren; Callie Jane Britt (Walker), Bryan McGill (Denise), and Meg McGill, and three great-grandchildren; Eli Britt, Banks Britt, and Nora McGill.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, JR McGill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church at 1184 N Shiloh Rd. York, SC 29745.
