Remembering Vance

Funeral Services for Mr. Vance L. Heard will be held Monday, October 10, 2016 at 11:00 A. M. in the Chapel of Wyche’s Funeral Home, the Rev. Ellis Carswell will officiate and private burial rites will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Mr. Vance Leroy Heard, age 95, a native or Roanoke, Alabama, was born February 25, 1921, and departed this life on October 3, 2016 in Montrose, Georgia. He was the son of the late Jim Heard and Essie Henderson Heard and the husband of the late Lillie Mae Heard. Vance accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Wehadkee Missionary Baptist Church. He was educated in the Randolph County School System. He spent his working career in New York where he retired from the Best Uniform Company in 1983 and relocated back to his southern roots, making Montrose his home. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in Okinawa, Japan, a Mason and a member of the Millville Cup. When he relocated to Montrose, he re-discovered his childhood passion for the outdoors and became an avid fisherman and hunter. Vance leaves to mourn his passing a son and daughter-in-law Larry Heard and Cordelia Heard, two grandsons, Julian Heard and Leonard Heard all of Bronx, NY; a devoted nephew and niece Elijah Morgan and Phyllis Morgan of Forsyth, GA; one sister, Mary Dunson (Henry) of Dayton, OH; six sister-in laws Dollie Baker and Esther Bell Watkins of Dublin, GA, Annie Rogers and Jessie Stephens of Montrose, GA, Clara Mae Watkins of Bronx, NY, and Teresa Watkins of Long Island, NY; one brother-in-law Malcolm Watkins (Yvonne) of Montrose, GA; a god son Matthew Watkins (Nicole) of Albany, GA; close relative Janneth Williams of Bronx, NY; three loving caretakers Diane Watkins May, Kathy Evans and Lisa Evans; and a host of relatives and friends.
