Shirley M. Smith
YORK -- Shirley M. Smith, 79, died Thursday, August 27th at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice home in Rock Hill after battling Alzheimer’s for 13 years. Born in Rhode Island, she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Smith and had one daughter, Denise Eakin.
Shirley and her family moved to many cities before finally retiring in the Clover area. In this area she watched her grandchildren grow up and was a huge part of each of their lives.
Shirley enjoyed traveling with her husband. The two traveled to many places overseas and used their RV to see the sights of America. Shirley’s final trips were to Colorado and up North to see her Family.
Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, family cookouts, cooking (the best spaghetti in the world), driving Cadillacs while flipping the bird, wearing high-heels, waking up at 11am, purses, flea markets, burning the holiday bread, cheering for her grand children’s sports teams, watching classic movies with her grandson John, eating ice cream with her great-grand children Madisun and Miller, hugging her grandson Bryan, making lunch for her grandson Robert, working with granddaughter Tiffany, doing Christmas Marathons and socializing with her daughter Denise, and giving her son-in-law Vern a hard time (she was a great mother-in-law). Although her memories faded, her families did not! Shirley was loved by her family and seen as a spit-fire Matriarch that will be missed tremendously.
She is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) Smith, her daughter Denise Eakin and husband Vern Eakin, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.

Her memorial service will be held at the home of Michael Dellinger and Daniel Rueff located at 229 Kings Mountain St. York, SC 29745 on September 2, 2015 at 7:00pm.
