Shirley Price

Shirley Pratt Sherer Price went to be with her Lord and Savior on 4-NOV-2015. She was born near Sharon, SC on 19-NOV-1912, to the late Ellen Beatrice Pratt Sherer and the late Luther Berry Sherer.
She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, John Caldwell Price (23-SEP-1914 ~ 30-DEC-2001), and sisters Mattie Belle Sherer, Helen Rhodes, and LaRue Burgess.
Mrs. Price is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Jane and Gernie Peckham, of Manhattan Beach, Ca, and her daughter and son-in-law, Jacqui and Richard Owen of Liberty, SC. Additionally, she is survived by eight grandchildren and step-grandchildren, 13 great-grand and step-great-grandchildren, and six step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was an active member of Sharon ARP Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in many circles.
Mrs. Price taught at Hickory Grove High School and York High School for more than 40 years. She also taught and served as an administrator for the district Adult Education program, retiring at age 90. During this time she used her gift of writing to compose essays and poetry, and was a published author.
She resided at the family home in Sharon until it burned in 2012. After the fire she went to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Jacqui and Richard Owen. She remained in good health until the last few weeks of her life.
For those who wish to give a memorial, please consider giving to the Alzheimer’s Association. Alzheimer’s did not affect Mrs. Price but did claim the life of her baby sister, LaRue Burgess.
Services will be held at Sharon ARP Church, 3915 York Hwy, Sharon, SC, with visitation from 10AM to 11AM. The service and interment will follow immediately. The Reverends Gil Martin and Meredith Cavin will officiate. Arrangements are being handled by Bratton Funeral Home, 1455 Filbert Hwy, York, SC 29745
