Sherman Smart ROCK HILL -- Sherman Edward Smart, 85, of 1229 McGill Pond Lane passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Harbor Chase in Rock Hill. A memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church with Revs. Neill McKay and Thomas McPhail officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 10 - 11 AM at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. Sherman was a son of the late Roy and Vergie Lindsay Smart. He was a member of Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class. Sherman was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during WWII on the USS Floyd B Parks DD884, which was a Georing Class Destroyer. He was retired as a precision millwright from Brown and Root Construction in Houston, TX, and was a member of the Masonic Dorchester Lodge #369 in North Charleston, SC. He is survived by wife Peggy Whitesides Smart of Rock Hill, son Edward Smart and wife Dolores, grandchildren, Shannon and wife Kim Smart, Renee and husband Mike Darnell, Rachel Wilson, and five great grandchildren. Sherman was preceded in death by daughter, Kathey Leigh Smart, brothers, Roy Smart Jr., and Werth Smart. Memorials may be made to Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church, 1184 N. Shiloh Rd.
