YORK – Tracy Ferguson died Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at home. He was born on September 30, 1939 to Samuel Tracy and Jeanette Dunlap Ferguson in York.
He attended York schools and was a graduate of Clemson College with a degree in Animal Science. He was an avid Clemson fan, and supported IPTAY for many years.
He was owner of Tracy Ferguson Real Estate and was a real estate broker for 46 years. He also operated Ferguson Youngblood Hardware store for 33 years, a business started by his grandfather in 1915, until it closed in 2005. Tracy also raised beef cattle on his beloved Ferguson Farm for most of his life.
He belonged to the York Crustbreaker Club, was a Director Emeritus of the Bank of York and was a past member of the South Carolina State Development Board. He was also a member of the York County Cattleman’s Association, York County Farm Bureau, and he was a faithful member of the Church of the Good Shepherd where he served in many capacities through the years, including the vestry and as Jr. Warden.
Tracy is survived by his wife, Jeanne Myers Ferguson of the home, and his children, Diane Ferguson Hanlon and her husband Paul, Samuel Tracy Ferguson III and his wife Susan, and John Braxton Ferguson and his wife Kelly; his grandchildren, Samuel Tracy Ferguson IV, Benjamin Alexander Ferguson and William Hambright Ferguson all of York. He is also survived by his sisters, Ann Wiley Barnwell and her husband Pete of York and Patricia Wilson and her husband Richard of Stanley, NC, his sister in law Diane Black Linkous and her husband Jim of York, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 25, 2016 with the Rev. Dr. P. William Greeley officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at a reception in the parish house, and other times at the home.
