Ruby Lee Stephenson Bailes, 93, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Carolina Gardens in York.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at First Baptist Church in York with Rev. Chris Liles officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
Born September 13, 1924, Ruby was a daughter of the late James Stephenson and Marie Brakefield Stephenson, and was the widow of Furman Bailes. Ruby was a seamstress having worked both in the families’ ladies clothing store and for the Men’s Shop in York. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and sang in the choir for over 50 years, and also was the pianist for the worship service at the local nursing home.
Ruby is survived by her children; Hazel Bailes Somerville (Murray), Norma Bailes Hoffman (Neal), Ronnie Bailes (Martie) all of York, sister Jimmie Foster of Charlotte, NC, grandchildren; Ron Bailes Jr. (Shannon), Katherine Bailes Flood (Tom), Cane Hoffman (Lindsay), and great grandsons; Furman Bailes, Parker Bailes, Cian Flood, Declan Flood, Gavin Flood, and Fordham Hoffman. In addition to her husband and parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her sisters, Aline Dumas and Eva Rhodes.
