Ronald Gensemer
ROCK HILL – Ronald Elwood Gensemer, 72, of 3008 Hilton Road, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 2, 2016 at his home in Rock Hill.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at First Wesleyan Church in York. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:30 AM on Thursday at First Wesleyan Church in York.
Growing up in the fifties, Ron became an avid rockabilly music fan. He was a History major and Chief Justice of the Student Court at UAB. Ron served in the US Army as a Paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Div., Crypto Operator. He was a sharpshooter and a CBR Instructor. Ron was a fan of Elvis Presley and the Beatles. When he became a father he always had music from his extensive album collection playing throughout the house.
He worked many different jobs including ice cream parlor attendant, gas station attendant, taxi driver, and optician. He became an expert on any subject matter to which he set his mind. This helped him become a Carbon Brush Specialist with Morgan AM&T before he retired after 37 years of service. Although he traveled for work, he tried never to miss a sporting event of dance recital, because he was always his children’s biggest fan.
One of the great joys in life was when his daughter Scotia reunited with him after so many years apart. He spent time with his family looking through his collection of albums, fishing, watching movies, attending NASCAR events (Earnhardt, Sr. Fan) and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters. He was aloyal Carolina Panthers and Alabama Crimson Tide football fan. He enjoyed restoring antique radios, collecting records and autographed memorabilia. He loved all of his family including his pets Buster and Lucy. He was always jovial and never met a stranger.
Ronald is survived by his wife Lisa; children Scotia (Chris), Eric (Anne), Jonathan (Jennifer) and April; brother Fr. Terry (Dr. Patricia); grandchildren Karsen, Ava, and Finley; special aunt Jackie Murphy (Bob); cousin Sherry; special nephew Dylan, many other loved nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion Lucy. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Gensemer, Mr. and Mrs. P.G. Lawley; parents Elwood and Ruth Gensemer, brothers Wally and Gary; and his faithful companion Buster.
The family is grateful to Providence Care Hospice for the excellent care which they provided to Ron. Visits from Tina and Amy were especially enjoyable. They provided great comfort to him during his declining health. He never missed an opportunity to tell his family that he loved them. His kind heart and good nature will be missed.
