York, SC. -- Mrs. Martha "Polly" Quinn Black Rogers died peacefully at home Monday, December 30, 2013.

Polly was born January 16, 1924 in Smyrna, SC. She was the daughter of the late Deva Dewitt Quinn and Susie Whitesides Quinn. She was predeceased by husbands E.C."Punk" Black Sr. and J.P. "Pete" Rogers, and son E.C. "Eddie" Black Jr.

She graduated from Hickory Grove high school and Erskine College. She was an educator in our public school system for many years. Polly was an active member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in York. Providence Presbytery honored her as the outstanding older adult in 2012.

Polly's life centered around her family, where she found great joy in their achievements. In her hands her family was a symphony that she conducted with love, humor, and encouragement. She found the best in every person she met and friends quickly were adopted into the family orchestra. She was a devoted teacher until the end of her life.

Polly is survived by sons Arthur Quinn Black (Marsha) and John Robert Black (Blanche) and daughter in law Diane Black Linkous all of York. Grandchildren Robert Clark Black (Brooke), Jane Black Limerick (Michael), Christopher Arthur Black (Christal), Paul Lindsay Black (Leah), and Beth Black White (Travis). Great- Grandchildren Addison, John Hampton, Avery, William, and Inabelle Camilla Black. She is also survived by sisters Rachel Quinn Wallis of Newport News, Va and Jean Quinn Hall (John) of York.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church Family Life Center with Revs. Ed Jillson, Don Thacker, and Tom McPhail officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the family life center and other times at the residence.

The family asks that In lieu of flowers memorials be designated to the Restoration Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 10 West Liberty St. York SC, 29745.
