Palmer Eugene “Gene” Knight
YORK -- Gene Knight passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015. He was born on March 24, 1923 to Ernest and Claire Howell Knight in St. George, S.C. He served in the Navy in World War II and afterwards graduated from Erskine College. He came to York as a coach at York High School. He then worked as an administrator at York Place, after his retirement he worked part time at Black Enterprises.
Gene is survived by his wife, Lettie Harper Knight of the home, son, Gene Knight, Jr and his wife Penny of Rock Hill, S.C., a daughter, Elizabeth Lundy and her husband, Ralph Lundy, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., grandchildren, Harper Lundy of Thompson Station, TN., Ralph Lundy, III of Atlanta, GA, Lettie Lundy of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Billy, Howell, David, Ernest and Joe Knight.
Gene is remembered for his love of life, of family and friends and his love for quail hunting, bird dog field trials and golf.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, York, S.C. on Saturday, November 14, 2015, with Rev. Greeley officiating, followed by a reception in the Parrish House.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 13, 2015 from 5-7 P.M. at the home, 1260 Springlake Road, York, SC.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Good Shepherd, P.O. 437, York, S.C. 29745.
