Remembering Oleatha

A Homegoing Celebration for the life of Mrs. Oleatha M. Cordy will be held Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 3:00 P. M. in the Hubbard Chapel Baptist Church, 22 Old Watermelon Road. The Rev. Tracy Wheeler will officiate and the interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery, Wrightsville, Ga. On Tuesday morning January 23, 2024 Oleatha Cordy received a special invitation from God. On this glad morning, she was called to personally tend the Master’s garden. She was the daughter of the late Albert Martin, Sr. and the late Avant Hines Martin both of Wrightsville, Ga. At an early age, Oleatha became part of Hubbard Chapel, where she was a dedicated servant. She was a graduate of Doc Kemp high school and later met and married the late Joseph Cordy, Jr. From this union were born two children, Jennifer and James Cordy, two grandchildren Jasmine and Acacia Cordy, and a future grandson in-law James Pewitt who will all forever Cherish her memory. Oleatha worked several years for the Buckeye pants factory and Mohawk industries where she spread the love of God every chance she could. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Martin, Sr. and Avant Hines Martin, husband Joseph Cordy Jr, Siblings Willie Charles Martin, Liza Jane Martin, Willie Wesley Martin, Avis Coleman, and Evelyn Norris. The warmth of her spirit will live on in the hearts of her brother Albert (Javalyn ) Martin Jr, Sisters in-law Rosa Randolph and Annie Martin, Brother in-law Charlie Coleman jr., God daughters Diane Wilcher, Peacy Lemon, Peg Johnson, Jeanette Hightower, and Thurlin May, Devoted nephews Michael Coleman, Keith Coleman, and Willie Hines, and several loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
