His mission here on Earth was complete. God whispered and said, "Well-done thou good and faithful servant, well done." Melvin was born on October l, 1952 to parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dell (Gladys) Wright, Sr. He was raised in the close-knit Buckeye Community and developed a love of gardening and farming. At an early age, Melvin joined the Buckeye Baptist Church. In I 986, he became ordained as a Deacon and served faithfully in his dedication and leadership within his church. Melvin often lifted the old familiar hymn, Guide Me, 0 Thou Great Jehovah, Pilgrim Through this barren land, I am weak, but thou are mighty, hold me with thou powerful hand. He attended East Laurens High School as a member of the Class of 1972 and completed his postsecondary education at Swainsboro Technical College. In 1973, Melvin began his employment at Engelhard Kaolin Company. He completed his 45-year career and retired from BASF in 2018. To friends and family alike, Melvin was affectionately known as "Pop". He was a quiet man whose actions spoke louder than any words. Melvin was a cheerful giver, always willing to go the extra mile to help those who were in need. His sense of humor and funny sayings were as valuable as his funloving nature and smile. In 1977, Melvin was united in Holy Matrimony to his loving wife, Betty Ann. To this union, three children, Travis, Melinda, and Andre were born. He was dedicated to his family and worked tirelessly to make sure that their needs were met. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Joseph, Robert, Kelvin, and Gloria. Left to cherish his memories are his loving and dedicated family including his wife, Betty, children, Travis, Melinda, and Andre, Brothers James (Lillian) Wright, Gary (Lareta) Duty, Phillip (Sandra) Duty and Jimmy Lee Wright and sisters Janice (Johnny) Anderson, Veatrice (Eddie) Rozier, Doretha and Sheila Wright, Aunts and Uncles, Inez (Kenneth) Sheppard, Mary (Nathan) Carter, Bertha O'Neal, and Felton Coley.
