Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. J. C. Burney will be held Friday, June 16, 2017 at 11:00 A. M. in the Mt. Pullen A. M. E. Church, the Rev. Ted Walters will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Burney was born July 3, 1932 to the parentage of the late Ernest and Flora Burney in Wilkinson County, Georgia. At an early age he became a member of the Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Later in his life, he became affiliated with Mt. Pullen A. M. E. Church. Mr. Burney receive an elementary level of education and began to work at a young age. He was employed with the Railroad, Dublin Burial Vault, also as a logger and the Manager of Ingram’s Vault Company for a number of years until his health declined. Mr. Burney attended the Laurens County Senior Citizens Center, and later spent his latter years as a in resident at the Haven of TLC. He enjoyed watching the Wheel of Fortune game show, which he often referred to as “My Show”. On Friday, June 9, 2017, Mr. J. C. Burney’s earthly mission was completed, as the Lord called him home. He was preceded in death by his brother, Wanza Burney, two daughters, Deborah Burney and Glenda Rawlings. Mr. Burney leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memories his wife, Mamie D. Burney, Dublin, Ga., a son, James (Antonia) Burney, Dublin, Ga., Lisa (Rev. Frank) Drakes, Dublin, Ga., Jerome Jones, Warner Robins, Ga., Cynthia (Larry) Higdon, Dublin, Ga., Gloria (Hardwick) Allen, Dublin, Ga., Glenda Taylor, Macon, Ga., Patricia (Michael) Little, Macon, Ga., Joyce Hines, East Dublin, Ga., Linda Roberts, Sunrise, FL., Quinsey (Levogie) Kates, Rentz, Ga., a sister, Robbie Nell Holliman, Miami, FL. And a host of grand, great-grand, and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Mr. Burney will be placed in the church one hour prior to the services. Friends are being received at the funeral home Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 6 til 8 O’Clock P. M. and at the residence of Mrs. Mamie D. Burney, 305 Arch Street, Dublin, Ga.
