York - Mary McCallister Whitesides of York passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, December 12, 2015 with her daughter by her side.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Union Baptist Church, 1945 Ratchford Rd, York, SC 29745 with Reverend Ray Long officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2015 at Bratton Funeral Home, 1455 Filbert Highway York, SC 29745 and other times at the home of her daughter, 1871 Fairhope Road, York, SC.
A native of Fort Mill, Mary was the daughter of the late George R. McCallister and the late Mattie McCallister. Born on November 4, 1938, she was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy M. Epps. Mary was a member of Union Baptist Church and was a retiree of White Oak Manor - York, where she served as personnel director for over 25 years and retired at the age of 74 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her two and a half years of retirement were courageously spent battling her disease with support from family, friends and loved ones.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary Lynn Norton and son-in law Gregory James Norton of York, SC; her brother-in -law DuBriel Epps of Fort Mill and two nephews Keith Epps (Ziza) and Roy Epps (Robin). In addition to her relatives she is survived by three grand dogs, Kassi, Frosty, Sinatra and a grand cat, Stitches who brought much comfort to her nestled in her bed when visiting.
The family would like to thank White Oak Manor - York for her special care while she recuperated from a fall and Interim Healthcare & Hospice when returning to her home. The loving and caring team of caregivers at her home - Ellen Montgomery, Mae Harris, Sara Moore and Melanie Haxton were a blessing to all.
