Leon “Tub” Bratton HICKORY GROVE Leon “Tub” Miller Bratton, 85, of 3580 Sawmill Road died Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at White Oak Manor in York, SC. There will be a service to celebrate his life at 3:00pm on Friday, November 18, 2011 at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church in Hickory Grove, SC. Rev. Larry Hyder will be officiating. Burial will be at the Hickory Grove Cemetery. A native of Hickory Grove, Leon was the son of the late Robert Walter and Pearl Ramsey Bratton. He was a member of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, a life member of Hickory Grove Fire Department and the Watt Blackmon VFW Post 6381. He was retired from Westinghouse Turbine Plant, Charlotte. He was a graduate of Hickory Grove High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Edna Ashley Bratton. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Anne B. Gilfillan and Kenny of Hickory Grove and Beth B. Dover and Dean of York two brothers, Joe H. Bratton and John T. Bratton of Hickory Grove two sisters, Frances B. Benfield of Hickory Grove and Ruth B. Faulk of Wilmington, NC four grandsons and their wives, Matthew B. Gilfillan and Tanya of Sharon, Wesley G. Dover and Hayley of York, Andrew T. Gilfillan of Hickory Grove and Zachary M. Dover of York, and two great-grandchildren, Anna Kate Dover and Maddox Dover of York. In addition to his parents and wife, Leon was preceded in death by brothers, Howard Bratton and W. David (Sam) Bratton sisters, Wilma B. Howell, Christine B. Vinson and Emma B. Howell. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Bratton Funeral Home. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staffs at Yorktowne Village and White Oak Manor-York for the loving care given to their father and family.
