Lela Hawks Brown, 65, of York, went home to be with the Lord peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, January 13, 2018.
The funeral service will be at 3PM on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Bratton Funeral Home with Reverend Tom McPhail officiating. The family will receive friends at 2PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Born in Red Sulpher Springs, WV, Lela was the daughter of the late Jack Harlow Hawks and Nelly Ford Hawks.
Lela is survived by her loving husband of fifty years, Joseph Byron Brown, Sr., sons, Joseph Byron Brown, Jr. (Jimmy), Theodore Jack Christian Brown (Donnie Harper), daughter, Robyn Jean Brown, brothers, John Hawks, George Hawks, sisters, Nancy Bridges, Wilma Grimmett, Alice Ambrose, and grandchildren, Carson Readett, Aj Readett, Timothy McCarter and Shelbie McCarter.
In addition to her parents, Lela was preceded in death by her brothers, William “Bart” Hawks, Deacon Hawks, and sisters, Minne Fae Hawks and Thelma Ann Hawks.
