John Hunter, Jr

Mr. John Holland Hunter, Jr., 90, of York, South Carolina went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Westminster Health Center, Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Hunter.
Mr. Hunter graduated from Presbyterian College in 1949 and received his master’s degree from the University of South Carolina in 1961. Working in education for most of his life, he began as a teacher in the Rock Hill school system and later became the principal at York High School. He then worked in administration at York Technical College. After retiring from the public school system, he worked as principal at Westminster Catawba Christian School.
Mr. Hunter was born in Clinton, South Carolina on June 30, 1928, to the late John and Net Hunter. He was a member and elder emeritus of Filbert Presbyterian Church. He was active in the Gideons, the Salvation Army, and the American Legion Post 66. He was also a volunteer with the Billy Graham Library.
He is survived by his sister, Betty Brice, and was preceded in death by his brother, Hub Hunter. He is also survived by his daughters, Nancy Hunter Feemster (Jimmy) and Betty Hunter Mosley, and son John Holland Hunter, III (Gloria); five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Filbert Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wallace Tinsley officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 11:00 AM at the church fellowship hall on Friday. Burial will be held at 3:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Clinton, SC.
