Joel Smith Coleman, 85, of York, SC passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Westminster Towers in Rock Hill, SC.
Born in Rowan County, NC, daughter of Ralph Olander Smith and Thelma Lawing Smith, Joel was a graduate of York High School and Rock Hill College of Commerce. She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 145, past President of York Rescue Squad Auxiliary, employee of York County Child Welfare Department and legal secretary. She was manager of a women’s apparel shop and Western Union operator, a floral designer, author of a book of poetry “The View From Here”, and member of First Presbyterian Church in York.
Joel was the widow of Frank “Buddy” Edwin Coleman, Jr. and is survived by her sons, Eddy Coleman (Sally) of Rock Hill, Ralph Coleman of York, daughter, Beth Branyon (Joey) of Rock Hill, and five grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joel was preceded in death by a grandson.
