Joe Templeton

Joseph Hilton Templeton Sr. After a life devoted to family, friends, and church, Joe departed this life on Sept 7, 2011 at his home in York. Born October 16, 1925, he was the son of the late John Donnan Templeton and Susie Hilton Templeton. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in York where he served as Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Superintendant, and a member of the Men’s Bible Class. He was a member of York County Young Farmers and served on the Fishing Creek Watershed Board. Joe graduated from York High School and served in the US Army. He retired from Celanese Fibers after 32 years of service. He enjoyed his family, his cattle farm, and church. He took pride in helping others. He dearly loved his grandchildren and was a Paw Paw to many children and adults. Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anna Harrill Templeton his two sons, Jody Templeton(Mehlia) and John Templeton(Leslie) both of York his daughter, Mary Rogers (Hall) of Rock Hill, SC his sister, Alice T. Shillinglaw of York his grandchildren, Jack and Joanna Rogers, Hilton, Bethany, Kirsten, Claire, and Kate Templeton. Joe was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Celeste, and his brothers, Bill Templeton, John D. Templeton, and sister, Betty T. Sparks. A celebration of life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of York on Friday, September 9th at 11am with the Reverend Thomas B. McPhail, Reverend Ed Jillson and Reverend Don Thacker. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Bratton Funeral Home on Thursday, September 8th from 6 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Presbyterian Church, 10 West Liberty St., York or to Interim Healthcare Hospice, 154 Amendment Ave, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
