YORK – James “Jim” T. McKee, 82, died at the Wayne T Patrick Hospice House on March 27, 2014. He was born April 14, 1931 to the late Malcolm P McKee and Ruth McKee Dylewski in Columbia, Tennessee.
Jim graduated from Central High School in 1949 where he played football and baseball. He attended MTSU a year before joining the Navy and served four years during the Korean War.
In 1952 he married his high school sweetheart, Bettye Seagraves McKee. Upon his discharge from the Navy, returned to MTSU and graduated with a degree in chemistry.
Jim’s entire professional career was spent in the paint industry in research and development. He, Bettye, and their two daughters lived in Louisville, KY, Chattanooga, TN, and Evansville, Indiana before moving to York, SC in 1989. He retired from Carolina Coatings as Vice President of research and development.
Jim was of the Methodist faith. He was a life long sports fan and avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bettye Seagraves McKee, his two daughters, Ruth Maxwell and Jean McKee and her husband Jeff Longaker; his grandchildren, Kassie (Matt) Davis, G.C. (Kristen) Maxwell, Kate Longaker, Emily Longaker, his great granddaughter Annabelle Davis, his brother-in-law Bob Seagraves (Loretta), sister-in-law Joann Seagraves, a niece and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Ed and Maggie Lee Seagraves, son-in-law Gary Maxwell, brother-in-law Ed Seagraves, and step father Anthony Dylewski.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
