Mr. Hubert Jack Heard, Jr., 81, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013.
Jack was born on April 2, 1932 in Charlotte, NC to the late Lina Zeigler Heard and Hubert Jack Heard, Sr. Jack attended UNC Chapel Hill and was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Austria. He married the late Joy Mayhew Heard of Ashland, KY, and they both attended Myers Park High School. He was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC.
Jack later owned a sheet metal fabrication company and was also active in the Mecklenburg Wildlife Club, the United State Power Squadron (an auxiliary of the United States Coast Guard), and was an expert pilot. Jack was well versed in many areas. He could tie every kind of sailor’s knot required, and other aspects of the water and sea. When he was piloting his small sport plane, he would explain to his daughter how eagles fly, the thermal affect of the air, and other various topics. He was a purist at heart and he was his daughters “Rock”.
Jack is survived by daughter, Heidi Heard-Davis, granddaughter, Caroline Davis, and sister, Elizabeth Bayliss.
A private funeral service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
