Herbert Lowman YORK - Herbert Arthur Lowman of York, SC, passed away Friday, September 28, 2012, at the Agape Alzheimers Facility in York, SC. The funeral will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 1, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gene Feagin officiating. Burial will be held at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Bratton Funeral Home from 6 - 8 PM. Herbert was born in 1919 in Burke Co., NC, the son of the late Horace Winfield Lowman and Geneva Abee Lowman. He served in the US Army Air Force in the early 1940's, based in San Antonio, Texas. He was a flight engineer and mechanic on the Martin B-26 bomber and other aircraft. After receiving an honorable discharge, Herbert returned to Burke County and worked for many years for the Alba Waldensian Corporation. In 1962, he moved to York, SC, and was employed by Huntley of York. He was later employed by Klear Knit in Clover, SC, retiring after 18 years of service. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in York. In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by brothers Winfred, Gilmer, Wayne and Everette Lowman. He is survived by his wife Bessie "Betty" Hudson Lowman, daughter Imogene Johnson of Piedmont, SC, sons Steve Lowman and wife Judy of Rock Hill, SC, Dr. Anthony Lowman of Columbia, SC, Eric Lowman and wife Jan of Beaufort, SC, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and brother Reavis Lowman of Indiana, Pennsylvania. The family wishes to express its deep appreciation for the love, care and compassion given to Herbert by caregivers at Agape Alzheimers Facility.
