Charleston, SC Georgia Leona Rush Mitchell Satterfield Georgia Mitchell Satterfield, the daughter of Mary Sue Rush and George Washington Rush died on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Hospice Center of Charleston. She was born on April 14, 1929 in Greenwood, South Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband William Morrow Mitchell, Jr., and her second husband Alvin Satterfield, and her son William M. Mitchell, III. Mrs. Satterfield graduated from Greenwood High School and Lander College. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from Winthrop University. Her career teaching home economics at Blacksburg Centralized High School for thirty-four years and as an extension service agent for Clemson University was one of dedication and service to the community. Over the years many of her students enjoyed enrichment activities through the Future Homemakers of America and participated in summer camps at the FHA camp in Ocean Drive, SC. She also taught adult education classes for Cherokee County. Her work with Clemson included helping local farmers with the produce at the Gaffney cannery and appearing on television with cooking presentations. Beautiful wedding cakes were one of her specialties. She was a member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Smyrna, South Carolina where she helped plan Vacation Bible School and taught an adult Sunday school class. Her many students over the years recall her “joy of life” and her vibrant personality. One of her favorite things to do included dancing which she enjoyed until the last few weeks of her life. Mrs. Satterfield enjoyed a fulfilling life even during in her valiant quest to overcome Alzheimer’s disease for the past twelve years. She would want to thank all the wonderful staff at Eden Terrace Assisted Living in Spartanburg, South Carolina and Sweetgrass Court in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. In her final weeks she had loving care at the Hospice Center of Charleston. Mrs. Satterfield is survived by her daughter, Emily Mitchell Watkins and her husband Ralph of Summerville, SC; daughter-in-law, Denise Mitchell; Grandson, Will Mitchell (Bek) and great-grandsons, Driggs and Bridger, all of York, SC; granddaughter, Allison Mitchell of York, SC; and grandchildren Camille Kale and Aaron Watkins of Charleston, SC. Mrs. Satterfield was blessed with more children from her second marriage who include daughter, Shawna Collins (Jason), grandchildren Hannah and Duncan, of Conway, SC; daughter Marisha Boone (Brent) and grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Taylor, of Lincolnton, NC; son A.J. Satterfield, Jr. (Tracy) and grandchildren, Delaina and Jolee of Lake Wylie, SC; and children Donna Satterfield and Wayne Satterfield of Greenville, SC. One son, Scott Satterfield, preceded her in death. Her surviving sisters are Martha Bagwell (Sammy) and Virginia Sue Smith of Greenwood, SC and her sister-in-law, Hayes Faulkner of Kings Creek, SC. Friends and relatives are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Monday, January 28, 2013 at Smyrna ARP Church in Smyrna, SC at 2:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will follow the service in the church sanctuary. There will be a luncheon prior to the funeral at the home of Denise Mitchell at 502 Windy Hill Road in York, SC. Funeral arrangements are by Bratton’s Funeral Home of York.
