Garland Davidson

Garland Thaddeus Davidson, Jr., 88, passed away on January 1, 2021 in the Lodge at Wellmore of Tega Cay. He was born on June 11, 1932 to the late Garland T. Davidson, Sr. and Sara Plaxco Davidson in York County, SC. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Following his graduation from Erskine College, Garland taught at the middle school level for eight years before moving into a career in banking in which he remained for thirty years. He enjoyed getting to know so many in the Clover community through his work.
Garland was a lifetime member of Bethany ARP Church where he served as adult Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Elder, and as Treasurer for nearly 28 years. He loved spending time outdoors on the farm and in his garden. He planted tomato plants by the hundreds, and in his retirement, continued gardening and taking his produce to the Rock Hill Farmer’s Market. Many enjoyed the fruits of his hard work.
In addition to his parents, Garland was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Lois Whitesides Davidson, and brother, Robert Davidson. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Adams of Chamblee, GA, and also his children, Thomas Garland Davidson (Mona) of Clover, SC, and Sara Davidson Janzen (Joseph) of Fort Mill, SC; three grandchildren, Nathan Davidson, and Grace and Patrick Janzen, along with several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be on Tuesday January 5, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Bethany ARP Church cemetery, 1454 N. Highway 161, Clover, SC. With Rev. Benjamin Glaser, and Rev. Alan Morrow officiating. The family will receive friends in the cemetery following the service.
