About Wilson Funeral Home
Wilson Funeral Home has served Norwich and Chenango County since 1891, making it the city's only family-owned and independent funeral home. Pete Wilson began serving the community in 1949, and his son Douglas later served as funeral director and owner for a combined 36 years before John and Shannon Gawronski purchased the firm in March 2017.
John Gawronski joined the funeral home in 2009, became a licensed funeral director, and managed the firm starting in 2015 prior to ownership. Licensed director John Antonowicz, a Norwich native, joined the staff in 2014, completed mortuary school in 2016, and became fully licensed in 2017; he has served on the Board of Directors of the Chenango United Way.
The funeral home's independent ownership keeps service decisions local rather than routed through a corporate office, serving families throughout Norwich and surrounding Chenango County towns including Brookfield, DeRuyter, Earlville, Hamilton, and Unadilla.
