Wilkerson Funeral Home was established by William Henry Wilkerson in 1909 and remains the oldest family-owned funeral home in Rockingham County, now in its fifth generation of family operation. William Henry Wilkerson, who received his formal training at Barnes School of Embalming, opened the first funeral-service-only business in Rockingham County in 1922 at the corner of Gilmer Street and Main Street in Reidsville. His sons Henry Pittman "Pitt" Wilkerson and Robert Reid "Bob" Wilkerson joined the firm in the 1920s, continuing the family tradition.
Marvin U. Ross, a licensed embalmer and funeral director, worked alongside the Wilkerson family for many years beginning in the early 1920s and is still remembered by longtime Reidsville residents for his professionalism. The funeral home offers both traditional burial and cremation services, with options ranging from full funeral services to private memorial gatherings, along with tribute videos, keepsakes, and live streaming capabilities for distant family members.
