Whidden-McLean Funeral Home was established in 1925 by Henry Pasco Whidden, who began his career in the early 1900s with the Wirt Furniture Company supplying coffins and funeral supplies for the Bartow and Fort Meade area. The funeral home moved to its current Main Street location in October 1937, where it has remained for over 85 years.
Now in its fourth generation of operation, the business became a partnership in 1977 when Donald S. McLean Jr., a Bartow native and graduate of Kentucky School of Mortuary Science who had served with the firm since 1965, joined the company. The funeral home operates an on-site crematory and also owns McLean Funeral Home in Fort Meade, established in 1999.
The family-owned firm offers live-streaming services for families and friends unable to attend in person, tribute videos, and various keepsake options for personalization.
