About Washburn-McReavy Northeast Chapel
Established in 1857—one year before Minnesota became a state—Washburn-McReavy is the oldest and largest independent funeral establishment in Minnesota. Founded by William P. Washburn as a furniture and undertaking company, the business was reorganized in 1917 as Washburn Undertaking Company when Washburn invited his nephew Donald R. McReavy to join the firm. Five generations of the Washburn and McReavy families have maintained ownership and continue to operate the business.
The Strobeck Johnson Chapel is one of multiple Washburn-McReavy locations serving the Minneapolis metro area. The funeral home organization operates its own cemeteries and offers regular educational seminars on advance planning, burial and cremation options, veterans' funeral benefits, and Medicaid asset protection. The company has published a detailed history book chronicling its 166 years serving Twin Cities families.
