Deroyce Volzke founded Volzke Mortuary in Seward in 1972 and operated it as the sole funeral director for over two decades. His son Jeff joined the business as a licensed funeral director in 1994, and the name was changed to Volzke Funeral Home. Jeff took ownership in 2016 following his father's retirement.
The funeral home remains the only funeral establishment in Seward County that has been continuously owned and operated by the same family for more than 51 years.
