Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary — Funeral Home in Orland, CA

Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary traces its origins to 1905, when the business was founded as the T.J. Hicks Company. Over the decades, the mortuary changed hands through several local families: Proctor Knott Hicks and partner William Chaney operated it as Hicks and Chaney Company until 1936, when Delbert W. Sweet purchased it and renamed it F.D. Sweet & Son. In 1948, Del Sweet built the current facility at 825 A Street, where the mortuary continues to operate today.

The Sweet family ran the business until 1970, selling to Jack and Pat Martin, who served Orland families for 34 years before retiring. James and Suzanne Miller purchased the mortuary in 2004, and Jim Miller expanded services to include Red Bluff Simple Cremations & Burial Service in 2007. Following Jim Miller's death in 2016, the business entered its current chapter under new ownership.

As the only locally-owned funeral home in Orland, Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary offers both traditional funeral services and cremation options, with staff available around the clock. The facility provides pre-need planning services for families who wish to arrange final wishes in advance.
