Swedberg Funeral Home traces its roots to 1931, when Karl Schweers established the Schweers Funeral Home in the same building that stands today. The business was purchased by the Carl Born family in 1958 and became Born Funeral Home, later expanding to include a location in Gresham. Lon Swedberg joined the staff in the late 1960s after growing up in his family's funeral home in Webster, Wisconsin, and he and his wife Ellen became co-owners with the Borns in 1978. The Swedberg family became sole owners in 1985.
The Shawano facility was significantly expanded in 1989 with the addition of a large chapel and wheelchair-accessible entrance. A neighboring lot was later purchased and converted into additional parking. The funeral home operates multiple locations in the region, including the Swedberg-Zastrow and Swedberg-Wendt facilities, with on-site crematory services available.
