About Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services
Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services traces its roots to the original Byham Funeral Home, established in Meadville in 1892, making it the city's longest-standing funeral home with nearly 130 years of continuous operation. The Meadville building dates to 1929, built as the first structure of its kind for funeral service use on this side of the Mississippi River. Over the decades the firm operated under several names, including Byham-McBride and Byham-Miller-Mizner, before becoming Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. in 2008.
A sister location in Saegertown holds its own distinction as Crawford County's longest continuous-running funeral home, founded in 1850 by Wilson Hunter and operated by four generations of the Hunter family, including Frank, Gordon, and Kenneth Hunter, before joining the Mizner organization. That building was constructed in 1910 and originally operated alongside a furniture shop that handcrafted coffins.
Together the two locations serve Meadville, Saegertown, and surrounding Crawford County towns including Cambridge Springs, Cochranton, Conneaut Lake, and Edinboro, offering pre-planning, grief support resources, and cremation services alongside traditional funeral arrangements.
