J. Roger Smith opened Smith Funeral Home in Greenfield in 1946, then purchased and renovated the Gardner residence in Shelburne Falls in 1951. In 1972 his son-in-law Daniel M. Kelleher joined the business, and the name became Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home. Dan and his wife Pamela Smith raised their five sons above the Shelburne Falls location while continuing the family tradition.
